TREATMENT TECHNOLOGY

Compression therapy is a simple and effective means of increasing blood flow activity in the lower limbs through strengthening vein support. These dressings then work to slowly stretch out vein walls and improve overall circulation, which in turn helps eliminate swelling. The socks or stockings serve as a replicated muscle, adding some pressure to contracting areas of restricted blood circulation in the leg, allowing veins to loosen up and reduce pain in the lower limbs. Compression therapy is a primary source of treatment that can help alleviate aching and loosen constriction between the vein walls.

Sufferers of chronic venous disease are the main candidates for compression therapy. Patients with varicose veins are often prescribed compression stockings in order to help reduce progression of the disease.

Compression therapy is recommended for patients who have experienced one or more of the following:

  • Spier or varicose veins
  • Venous insufficiency issues
  • Blood clots in the veins
  • Leg injury or surgery
  • Excessive weight gain or obesity
  • Prolonged periods without movement
  • Pregnant women
  • Anyone interested in preventative therapy

Compression stockings are prescribed with different degrees of compression depending on the severity of the venous condition. Depending on the venous condition, medical compression therapy can take different forms:  socks, stockings (below knee and thigh high), pantyhose, or compression bandages.

Depending on a patient’s specific needs, Dr. Ruz will recommend the proper product.

BENEFITS & RESULTS

Graduated compression has many positive effects on the body to both blood flow and the tissues themselves.

Blood Flow Effects:

  • Increases Venous Blood Flow (Circulation)
  • Decreases Venous Blood Volume (Blood Pooling)
  • Decreases Reflux In Diseased Superficial And Deep Veins (Minimize And Reduce Spider And Varicose Veins)
  • Decreases Pathologically Elevated Venous Pressure

Effects on Tissue:

  • Decreases Elevated Edema Of The Tissue (Swelling)
  • Increases Drainage Of Toxic Substances Like Lactic Acid
  • Decreases Inflammation
  • Sustains Reparative Processes
  • Improves Movement Of Tendons And Joints
